Gamber Hornets Travel Basketball

The Gamber Hornets basketball program offers travel basketball for boys in grades 5 through 8. Tryouts are held in September and October and the season runs until mid-March.

The Hornets are one of about ten teams in each division of the Carroll County Basketball League (CCBL). The league is made up of teams from throughout Carroll County (plus one from Howard county) in Maryland. The Gamber Hornets are affiliated with the Central Carroll Recreation Council and are sponsored by the Gamber/Smallwood Optimist Club.

The Hornets have two teams in each division of the CCBL. The 'A' division team is made up of 6th grade boys and 8th grade boys. The 'B' division team is for 5th grade boys and 7th grade boys. Some of the other teams combine their team with 5th and 6th graders and 7th and 8th graders. We have elected to try to keep our teams grade-specific so the boys can benefit from a continuity of coaching styles and experience. The Hornets invite boys from Westminster, Gamber, Finksburg, Sandymount, and surrounding areas to try out for our squads.

Most games are played on Saturdays with an occasional game possible on Friday evening or Sunday. Practice begins in October and league games run from December through March. The teams also participate in the CCBL Christmas tournament in December and the end of season playoffs in March. Other tournament participation is up to the individual teams.
